This blog is a part of thinking activity, given by Barad Sir. In this blog I write about The Poem "Lockdown " written by Simon Armitage. here , in this blog I write about my experiences during the Corona Time.

A Pictorial Journey of a Pandemic Poem

                              Lockdown

              -Somon  Armitage

The poem "Lockdown" :-

And I couldn’t escape the waking dream

of infected fleas

in the warp and weft of soggy cloth

by the tailor’s hearth

in ye olde Eyam.

Then couldn’t un-see

the Boundary Stone,

that cock-eyed dice with its six dark holes,

thimbles brimming with vinegar wine

purging the plagued coins.

Which brought to mind the sorry story

of Emmott Syddall and Rowland Torre,

star-crossed lovers on either side

of the quarantine line

whose wordless courtship spanned the river

till she came no longer.

But slept again,

and dreamt this time

of the exiled yaksha sending word

to his lost wife on a passing cloud,

a cloud that followed an earthly map

of camel trails and cattle tracks,

streams like necklaces,

fan-tailed peacocks, painted elephants,

embroidered bedspreads

of meadows and hedges,

bamboo forests and snow-hatted peaks,

waterfalls, creeks,

the hieroglyphs of wide-winged cranes

and the glistening lotus flower after rain,

the air

hypnotically see-through, rare,

the journey a ponderous one at times, long and slow

but necessarily so.

1). what is your first reaction to this poem? Are you able to connect your Lockdown experience with this poem?.

I like this poem, and I will give support this poem as a reaction because this poem teaches us or suggests that we should give support each-other , mostly when we are in trouble.

This poem represents the situation of those people who were facing trouble during the Plague Fleas , he describes the situation or condition of those people who suffers a lot at that time. We all know that The Plague Pendemic is a big pandemic like corona virus, at that time , lots of people were dying and affected through Plague.

This poem 'Lockdown' written by Simon Armitage  is describes a condition of people during the Lockdown period and peoples behaviours towards affected people. We all know that during corona , we all were corntine in our houses, we cannot go outside without reason. we can say that its a very dangerous time.

I  have also lots of experience of that time. At the very first time, when people know about this virus, people were still blaming Chin because starting of corona virus was came from Chin. People continuously blemed China because they believes that Chin made this virus for take revenge with other Country's , I also know that when government bends all the products or bends all the materials which comes from China even people delated that all the mobile applications which made by China. People were stand against China when they should have to support them because they were still facing the corona virus, but people started blemed China instead of help.

I know that incidence, when the first case of corona virus was came in our village, and then my villagers behaviour including my family towards that family and affected parson . when they  needs to help of someone all the people go far away from that family.

In this corona pendemic , so many peoples were die and many people were lost thier family members. People passes so many time in their houses , they cannot meet each-other. During this period, Lovers were also facing a big problem, they cannot meet their partners or mistresses , here we can compare Kalidasa's well known work "Meghaduta" , A cloud Messenger.

"Meghaduta" in this work Yaksha is far away from his beautiful wife and he sends a message through clouds, same conditions of those people who cannot meet their behalf during the pendemic time.

This is a natural crises and this journey was a very long and slow for people.

2). If you are chines or African , would you be happy with concluding messenger which the speaker is deriving or interpreting from this poem?

If I'm Chines or African I would be happy with concluding message of this poem. The concluding lines of the poem are like.,

       we are in difficult time!
we are in dire need of such
poems which may inspire us to
      be together rather than separated".

In this lines, poet says that we should be together in difficult situation rather than blame each-other and be saperate. The lines represents the concept of "वसुधैव कुटुंबकम् We all the people are equal and we should help each-other in difficult situations rather than be saperate from them.

During the Plague and Corona time people were go far away from that country or nations which are affected on that virus rather than help them. They needs help of us because they facies Corona or Plague and many people were die on that particular situation but people were blaming them rather then support them or help them.

Many poems are written on this situation. like.,

        Rudyard Kiplings,

"East is east , and West is west,
           The twain shall never meet".

In this poem , Rudyard Kipling describes about the behaviour of East and west contries people. Poet wants that they have not any difference that's why they should not be saperate from each- other. They should be together and help each-other in difficult situations.

Another poem is , our Indian writer Rabindranath Tagore's Poem, the poem brought from the greatest work of Rabindranath Tagore.

Gitanjali (Poem :- 35)

" where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls".

This poem is also represents the same concept of that people who are free to live their life with freedom , and they should be help or support each other and be together.

At the end, we can say that people should help each other in their difficult situation rather then blame them or be saperate from them.

     Thanks for visiting.........
