worksheet :- "Aristotle's Poetics"

                    Introduction

This blog contains critical evaluation upon Aristotle's Poetics with regards five questions.
 1) How far you agree with Plato's objection to freedom of expression and artistic liberty enjoyed by creative writers.

I am agree with Plato's objection of various things because according to plato mostly poetry and other works comes from western cultures because most of poets are imitate other poets works and then create their own work. They use other poets points of view , thinking and idea instead of their own thinking ,idea and points of views. They mostly creat their work with coping other works, their mostly focuses on other works instead of moral of their work.
I also agree with his objection that poets are frenzy at that time. Due to their frenzy ness they writes their work with harmful depictions. Platoalso against with that poets who follows western cultures and devorties because sometimes when they imitates other works, they write liers about our culture because our culture is fully deferent from the western culture. Due to this reason sometimes our work is representes in a wrong way of meaning.
I am against at Plato's one objection that is , "creative writer should not write with their personal thinking , creative world and imaginative thoughts" . According to me creative writer should write their work upon this topics because sometimes the creative works can help a human in their enxity, stress and it can be give them pleasure and hope.
So I'm against with plato on this topic. Because writer should write their work with their own thinking and imagination instead of imitate other people's work of arts.

2) with reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A. programme ,with brief note on the text which followed Aristotle's literary tradition.

We are studied three tragedies during our B.A. programme which follows Aristotle's literary tradition. That are like.,

        1) All My Sons
        2) Tughlaq
        3) Othello

This three tragedies are followed Aristotle's literary tradition and I discuss one of them here in brief.

1) All My Sons

This play 'All My Sons' is written by Arthur Miller. This story is reflection of society and how people driven by a lust for money can stoop to any extent to aquire wealth.
This play sets during second world war.

2) Tughlaq

'Tughlaqis also a tragic play which is written by Indian writer Girish Karnad. It is a historical play that deals with the life and ambitions of a Muslim king Muhammad-Bin-Tughlaq . The action of the play takes place first of all in Delhi and then Daulatabad. It is a campelling allegory of The Nehruvian Era. Protagonist of the play is 'Muhammad-bin -Tughlaq.

3) Othello

Othello is very famous work of William Shakespeare. In this work he talks about Othello's political life ,he he ruined his life.

Tragic Hero :- Othello

Hubrics  :- we can see this ,when Othello blindly trusts on Iago more than his wife and he kills his faithful wife because of misunderstanding.

Hamartia :- Hamartia means internal tragic flaw.we can see this tragic flaw at this play when Othello mistrusts upon his wife and kills her and than again when he knows the truth he committed suicide at the end of the play.

Catharsis :-  Catharsis according to Aristotle, Catharsis is a release of emotions especially pity and fear ,at the end of the play.

We can see this ,when Othello know's everything and he fills guilt for his misunderstanding and than he committed suicide.

                 Conclusion

At the end , we can say that protagonist losts his everything because of his mistake. He losts his faithful wife .

3) With reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A. programme, with brief note on the texts which did not follow Aristotelian literary tradition.

We were studied two tragedies which did not follow Aristotelian literary tradition. That are .,

         1) Ghasiram Kotwal
         2) The Hairy Ape

1) Ghasiram Kotwal

Ghasiram Kotwal is a play written by Vijay Tendulkar. It is based on the life of Nana Phadnavis. This play mainly descuss about the life of simpal and poor man Ghasiram and his daughter Ghuri. This is a political satire. In this play Tendulkar tells about a power of man , how politicians use their power and how they ruined other people's life for their lust.

This work isn't follows Aristotle's literary tradition because here we can see that Ghasiram ruined their life because of his personal reasons, here he sacrifices his daughter and get a job as a Kotwal. Here he becames Kotwal because he wants to take revenge .

So, Here we can say that this play is ends with sad-ending but here Ghasiram losts everything because of his lust of take revenge.

2) The Hairy Ape

This story also doesn't follows Aristotle's literary tradition.

The Hairy Ape is written by Eugene O'Neill. It is a story of a man whose name is "Yank" . In this story we can see the life of Yank ,how he ruined his own life , how he follows the humans thoughts of mind and falls his life at the end of the story.

This stories end is also unhappy but we cannot say that this story follows Aristotle's literary tradition because here in this story Yank ruined his life because of a judgements of human and thoughts of human towards him. So, At the last , Ape kills him.
